Have you ever wondered if you’ve ruined God’s plan for your life? Maybe you’ve felt someone else was trying to stop God’s plan for your life? Sometimes, the sequence of events in our lives seems to veer us far from the path we believe God has for us. Today, we will study King David’s life as we consider the idea that no one can stop God’s plan for your life.

Nothing Can Stop God's Plan for Your Life

God Has a Plan for Your Life

No matter what your past or present looks like God has a plan for your future. It can be easy to look at the circumstances around us and be tempted to doubt God’s plan for our lives. Or maybe we believed He had a plan, but bad things happened to cause us to feel that plan has been nullified. Not so!

We live in a fallen world where bad things can happen to good people. We have an adversary whose job is to steal, kill, and destroy us.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 NLT

Despite the negative things that happen and regardless of the enemy’s plan to destroy us, God’s purpose will still prevail. It’s our job to continue to trust God and submit ourselves to Him.

As long as we surrender and allow God to lead us, He will do the rest. He knows how to get us exactly where He wants us to be.

The thing is, Satan wants to get us to give up on God’s plan for our lives. Don’t let him fool you regardless of what has happened in your past, or what’s going on in your life right now.

Do not give up and don’t throw in the towel because that’s what the enemy wants. He wants to steal your hope, destroy your life, and ultimately kill God’s children. He knows God has a good plan for us. That plan furthers the advancement of God’s kingdom, and the devil doesn’t like it.

God Has a Purpose for Your Life Bible Verse

There are a few scriptures throughout the Bible that talk about God’s plan for our lives. The verse below is one that is commonly quoted. It’s a great reminder that God has plans for us just as He had plans for Jeremiah and the other believers we read about throughout scripture.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

Not only does God have plans for us, but He also goes on to say that those plans are for good. His plans for us do not lead us to disaster. So, even when things appear to be going wrong, we must remember that God promises to give us a future and hope.

The ultimate hope and future is eternal life with Him. However, He also has good plans for us here on Earth. God laid out those plans before you were even born.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. Psalm 139:16 NLT

God’s Plan for David’s Life

David was someone who had to trust God with the plans for his life, even when things got extremely difficult.

Saul was the first king of Israel, but he disobeyed God. As a result, God rejected Saul because he did not have a heart for Him. Instead, the Lord chose another king-David.

In 1 Samuel 16, God told Samuel to anoint David as king. At the time, David was very young and he was only a shepherd taking care of his father’s sheep & goats. But God had a plan! It took years for David to see the full manifestation of God’s promise, but he did receive it.

Throughout David’s life, we can see how God was leading and preparing him. He went to the battle camp to give his brothers food, and he ended up fighting and killing the giant Goliath. As a result, David worked very closely with King Saul, he married King Saul’s daughter, and he fought in King Saul’s army. God gave David success in every battle. King Saul grew jealous of David’s success, fame, and God’s promise to make him king.

What Happened to David?

The enemy used King Saul to attempt to kill David many times! David had to run for his life because Saul was constantly trying to kill him. However, God’s hand was upon David because He had a plan for him. Even when David was looking death in the face, God protected him. He prevented the enemy’s attempts from succeeding!

In one instance, Saul kept sending men to look for David and the Lord wouldn’t let it happen. Saul decided to go find David himself and the Spirit of God came upon him causing him to prophesy. He ended up tearing his clothes and lying naked on the ground and prophesying all day and night. This prevented Saul from finding David which is evidence that no one can stop God’s plan for your life!

There were many times when things looked bleak. David even feared for his life at times. He knew what the circumstances were, yet, he continued to trust God.

Then David took an oath before Jonathan and said, “Your father knows perfectly well about our friendship, so he has said to himself, ‘I won’t tell Jonathan—why should I hurt him?’ But I swear to you that I am only a step away from death! I swear it by the Lord and by your own soul!” 1 Samuel 20:3 NLT

God constantly sent David help and a way of escape in each circumstance. He even used King Saul’s own children, Jonathan and Michal, to love David and help him escape their father’s attempts to take his life.

God’s Purpose Will Prevail

Things may not go the way we plan, but God is still in control. We must continue to submit to Him and His will with the understanding that His purpose will prevail.

You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail. Proverbs 19:21 NLT

David even had opportunities to kill King Saul which would make sense to many of us today. However, David spared Saul’s life each time he had the opportunity to kill him. Eventually, King Saul and his son Jonathan (heir to his throne) died in battle.

God knew all along that King Saul would eventually be removed from the throne. Saul died which allowed David to live in peace without blood on his hands.

King Saul’s surviving son Ishbosheth became King of Israel, but David continued to trust God. God’s promise was that David would become king. Ishbosheth was murdered, but it wasn’t at David’s hand. Finally, David became king of all of Israel! He remained faithful to God and received His promise.

Final Thoughts

Through the ups and downs, God was with David and His purpose prevailed in his life. David remained faithful to God and chose not to take matters into his own hands. Let this be an encouragement to you today. No one can stop God’s plan for your life. Don’t be discouraged by what is happening to you or around you. God’s purpose will prevail, so continue to trust Him, don’t give up, and let God work it out.
