Life can be so busy at times! It can often feel like there is so little time, yet, so much to do! It can be so easy to mix up our priorities in life.

Your physical and spiritual well-being can get pushed to the back-burner as you try to maximize your time.

It may even feel as though you wake up early to try to get more things done, only to go to bed exhausted with things left on the list.

If you are not careful, you can run yourself ragged trying to do all the things.

There comes a time when we simply must surrender and choose to sit before God.

The dishes can wait. The invitation to that event can wait. The chores, emails, agendas, etc. can wait for a moment. Take time to be refreshed in the presence of the Lord.

Let’s read about a woman who was so caught up in her to-do list, that she almost missed out on a blessing.

Concern Yourself with This One Thing. Priorities in life. Overwhelmed woman.

Concern Yourself With One Thing

38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.

39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.

40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!

42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:38-42 NLT

Martha’s Priorities in Life

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are so many things to do, deadlines to meet, and people to connect with.

Oftentimes, we cross things off of our to-do lists, just for more things to be piled right back onto the list. It’s easy to feel as if we never get a break!

If we put ourselves in Martha’s shoes, the odds are that we’d find ourselves grocery shopping, cooking dinner, tidying the house, and freshening up in preparation for a big dinner with Jesus.

Seeing your sister leave the work to you while she relaxes in the presence of Jesus could truly be frustrating.

This is why Martha tells Jesus that it seems unfair, and she tells him to make Mary go and help her.

Laptop with bright colored sticky notes everywhere. Priorities in life. Prioritize this in your life.

Jesus Tells Us What to Prioritize

Jesus responds with a profound statement, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about…”

This should encourage us to slow down in the midst of the chaos around us, and take time to focus on the one thing worth being concerned about.

The Lord should be our top priority. We should long to seek Him in His presence.

It is in that place where we find peace, rest, joy, comfort and help.

Matthew 6:33 instructs us to seek God’s kingdom first & all His righteousness, and everything else will be added unto us.

So, next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember to slow down and sit at the feet of Jesus.

He will take care of you. His presence is where we can find the peace that you need to calm your heart in the midst of your busy schedule.

Straighten Your Priorities in Life

Make some time today to clear a slot in your schedule so that you can spend uninterrupted time with the Lord.

Forget the to-do lists and plans, and slip away to a quiet place where you can sit at the feet of Jesus, even if it’s only for just a few minutes.
