Who doesn’t want an easier, more comfortable period!? Here are my 10 all time favorite hacks that make my period easy and comfortable every month!

I do want to note that everybody’s body, body type and period are different, so I am simply sharing with you what works for me. Hopefully this will help you as well!

10 Period Hacks for An Easier Period

Watch Your Diet

The 1st period hack I want to share is very simple. I watch my diet. The timing of it is also important. When I know that my period is coming within a few days, I like to make sure that I’m very aware of what I’m consuming.

I pay attention to my dairy, sugar, caffeine, and water consumption. Those are the four areas that I focus on because I discovered that if I’m consuming too much dairy or sugar, I’m more likely to have cramps.

I don’t consume a lot of caffeine, but if you do drink a lot of coffee, or anything caffeinated you want to pay attention to that too.

These things can intensify your cramps when you consume too much dairy, sugar, or caffeine. Not drinking enough water & dehydration can also intensify cramps.

Pay close attention to your diet 3-4 days before you’re expecting my period.

Drink more water each day & do your best to avoid dairy during the span of the first few days of your period. Try to avoid sugar a few days before starting your period also.

Are You Craving Sugar on Your Period?

Many women typically crave sugar during their cycle, so I recommend that you try different sugar alternatives that will help with the sugar craving.

Homemade treats are good because you can control the amount of sugar in them. Maple syrup, honey, erythritol, and monk fruit are sweeteners that are more natural and better than plain white sugar.

I like to visit this blog called Clean & Delicious for yummy, healthy sweet treats!

Fresh fruit and smoothies are also healthy options to beat your sweet tooth.

Drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea

The second hack for making your period easier is to drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea

Red Raspberry Leaf Tea is something that I drink before my period is expected to start. I like to have it in my system a few days before my cycle begins if I can.

10 Period Hacks for An Easier Period

Keep Your Immune System Strong

The third period hack is to protect your immune system. I don’t know about you but I’ve found that over the years when my cycle is starting sometimes my immune system can be a bit compromised.

To combat this, I keep my immune system strong by increasing my Vitamin C intake. I make sure I’m stocked up on my vitamins & supplements, and I eat healthy & nutritious foods.

I also avoid getting too cold. Carrying a jacket, turning up the thermostat, and making sure my hair is not dripping wet are beneficial for me during this time as well.

Use a Bidet During Your Period

Hack # 4 is to use a bidet. The bidet has become one of my favorite things, and it’s incredible especially during period time because it just really helps me feel really clean!

There are many different bidet options! You can use a portable bidet, a bidet spray attachment, a bidet seat attachment, a bidet that is built in next to your toilet.

If you need a quick bidet hack and you’ve had a baby, pull out your peri bottle. If you have a Frida Mom Peri bottle that works even better!

To feel fresh often during your period, all you need to do is use the bathroom like you normally would, but once finished, use the bidet to spray yourself off and then pat yourself dry.

This can make you feel as fresh as you would if you took a shower. It’s very refreshing during a time when you can feel so yucky.

Here are my thoughts on a portable bidet:

Take Extra Bird Baths

Period Hack # 5 is to wash up or give yourself a bird bath more frequently.

Typically people take a daily shower and you definitely still want to continue that, but don’t be afraid to wash yourself up a little bit more frequently during that time of the month.

This is just another way to keep yourself fresh and avoid any smells if you are prone to them. Just freshen up a little bit to make yourself feel fresh and clean.

This helps you feel better and of course you know that you are fresh and don’t have to worry about any issues.

The 6th hack is to drink A LOT of water. Drinking lots of water is very important to me during my cycle because it’s very beneficial. Drinking water minimizes any potential cramps and I’ve personally noticed that it lightens my flow.

Minimizing sugar intake, increasing water intake often makes my flow a lot lighter and more manageable! When losing blood on a daily basis, it’s good to stay hydrated and drink water.

Use Reusable Pads & Products

Period hack #7 is to use better period products. I use reusable period products, but you can also use organic period products.

Ditch all of those chemically laden period products that we’ve known for so many years and switch to either an organic cotton product or a reusable product.

I created a few Youtube videos about reusable cloth pads. You can check those out here if you’d like:

I love reusable cloth pads because there are no chemicals in them.

The problem with disposable pads and tampons is that they are made with chemicals, chlorine and things that aren’t good for your body. These things get into your body- especially when it’s down there in a very sensitive area.

Try to avoid chemicals seeping into your skin and into your body so you by selecting a healthier option. Many women report that these healthier alternatives minimize their cramps.

Use Toilet Paper with Your Disposable

The 8th period hack is to use toilet paper if you’re still using disposable pads. You can do this even if you’re using an organic disposable pad.

Something I used to do years ago was use toilet paper on top of my pad. I would fold up the toilet paper and lay it on top of my pad and that just made me feel more dry and less icky.

Every time I went to the restroom, I would remove the soiled toilet paper and flush that and just put a fresh layer on.

This allowed me to feel drier longer instead of sitting on a soiled pad for a couple hours until I changed it. It also saved me some coins since I didn’t go through my pads as quickly.

It may seem strange to you, but that was something that really worked for me when I wore disposable pads.

I do want to note that this was before the world experienced toilet paper shortages.

Be Prepared

The ninth hack to help you have an easier period is to be prepared. Know when your period is coming. You can do this by tracking your period.

I talked about period tracking in a Youtube video, so I will leave the link here if you’re interested.

Knowing when your period is coming helps a lot when you want to be prepared. Create a period kit or at least keep some pads on hand at all times so that you’re never taken off guard.

I like to keep a few pads in my desk at work or in my purse or diaper bag so that I always have them.

Having even one pad or tampon to hold you over until you access your primary period product is a life saver. If you get caught unprepared, you can alway use toilet paper.

Create a layer of toilet paper to lay on your panties and wrap more toilet paper around it horizontally and that should keep things in place and hold you over until you can access your products.

Wear Period Panties

My tenth and final period hack is is to use period panties. I used to always get nervous about the fact that I knew my period was supposed to come on a specific day but I didn’t know what time.

Would it come at breakfast, in the afternoon or maybe at night while I slept?  I felt the need to constantly go to the bathroom to check to make sure I didn’t have any surprises.

I didn’t want to wear a pad all day while I waited for my period to come. To solve this problem now, I use my period panties! When you wear period panties on the day that you know you’re supposed to start your period, you can rest assured knowing that you have period coverage all day! Talk about a win.

I did a Youtube video review on the brand of period panties that I currently use. To shop, use code laris15 for 15% off! You can check out the video here:
